Book Club Scam

The Trustees have received several reports that a scammer is using our organisation identity to ask people for money. The details are usually simialr to the following;

  • sender name claims to be “Nicole”
  • claims to represent the Geek.Zone Book Club
  • email address of [email protected]
  • says they would like to discuss your book at the next meeting, but asks money, usually £60 to £90, to do so

In reality,

  • We do have a book club run by Nicole. This is public information from our Meetup.com page, so the scammer is using truth to fuel their fiction.
  • We will never ask for payment before discussing a literary work.
  • All official Geek.Zone email addresses end in @geek.zone
  • Geek.Zone is funded via the donations that our members offer and any grants that we apply for (through their proper channels) and are awarded. We never “cold call” via any communication method to ask for payment.

The email you received is a scam.

Do not send them money. Do not reply.
